PYSL Vaqueritos Recreational Soccer

Director of Recreation

The Poway Youth Soccer League (PYSL) is proud to offer our new Vaqueritos Recreational Program housed in our community’s “city in the country”.  Our program starts at four years old and provides playing opportunities for our Vaqueritos players (def. as little cowgirls and cowboys).  For those pre-Vaqueritos kiddos, ages 2-4, we strongly recommend looking into North County Soccer Park programming right here in Poway.

In many cases, our Vaqueritos programming begins the pathway to our competitive Poway Vaqueros Soccer Club (PVSC) and beyond.  The Vaqueritos' program is specifically structured toward the recreational side and to enhance the beginning soccer player's enjoyment and development.

Our programs provide our players with an understanding of peer socialization, team/group dynamics, and physical exercise through the introduction and teachings of age-appropriate technical and tactical skills.  All of this is carried out in a safe environment that will foster an appreciation and love for the “beautiful” game.

We will provide PVSC directors and coaches as well as paid soccer professionals for our player clinics, while the weekend games are coached and managed by parent volunteers; educated by our Safesport, SoCal webinars, as well as our Director of Recreation and PVSC coaching staff.

PYSL Chief Executive Officer and PVSC General Manager of Soccer Operations, Lev Kirshner (aka, coachK) provides oversight and guidance with structuring our different programs.  For more than 20 years, Lev successfully managed and led the San Diego State University men’s soccer team, while competing in the Pac-12 men's soccer conference since 2005.

The Vaqueritos' program vision, organization, and implementation is handled by PYSL's Director of Recreation, Bertin Loyola. Bertin has been involved in youth soccer for more than 10 years while holding the country's highest coaching license, US Soccer's, National Youth "A".  In fact, when coaching in his twenties, Bertin was admitted into US Soccer's, "Top 30 coaches under 30 years of age" education and mentorship program; a unique and highly coveted program within US Soccer's coaching education system.  Bertin also holds the United Soccer Coaches Association's highest license, the U.S.C. Premier Diploma.

One day, we hope to LASSO these young Vaqueritos soccer players to the competitive branch of the club, where PVSC can continue to TACKLE the process of developing high-quality players who will achieve their ultimate GOALS in the game; whether that be high school, college, professional soccer or to simply continue playing throughout their adult lives.

We look forward to making certain our Vaqueritos kiddos enjoy our fun-filled, recreational program!
